Position Overview
We are looking for a highly competent engineer whose core strength is bridging UAV product design and series production. Using specialised software, you will optimise components and assemblies for cost-effective manufacturing, straightforward assembly and high first-pass yield. Working closely with R&D, suppliers and the production floor, you will turn validated designs into repeatable, production-ready UAV products while maintaining safety, performance and functional integrity.
What You Will Do
• DFM/DFA-driven design. Review and redesign machined, moulded, composite and sheet metal parts to reduce manufacturing complexity, part count and unnecessary tight tolerances. Apply tolerance stack-up analysis to critical interfaces.
• Assembly architecture. Develop modular, mistake-proof SolidWorks or other relevant software assemblies and practical assembly sequences. Define joint designs, fastener strategies, access for assembly and maintenance, and bonding and sealing processes.
• Tooling and fixtures. Design and validate assembly jigs, inspection fixtures and production test fixtures. Prepare fabrication-ready drawings and verify tooling suitability, repeatability and operator access.
• Manufacturing documentation. Produce and maintain 2D drawings with critical-to-quality dimensions, material and finish specifications, exploded assembly instructions, bills of materials and production routings.
• Production readiness. Lead the engineering transfer from prototypes to pilot builds and series production. Establish build sequences, validate assembly cycle times, resolve build issues and confirm readiness before controlled release.
• Quality and continuous improvement. Work with Quality to define inspection points, acceptance criteria and first-article checks. Use process risk reviews and root-cause analysis to reduce defects, rework and recurring assembly failures.
• Configuration and traceability. Control CAD, drawing and BOM revisions through PDM or equivalent systems. Manage engineering changes, assess their impact on existing stock and builds, and support component and assembly traceability.
• Supplier and production collaboration. Evaluate supplier quotations and manufacturability, clarify technical requirements, review first samples and drive approved design changes based on supplier and factory feedback.
• Cost engineering. Conduct make-versus-buy and value engineering analyses using SolidWorks (or relevant software) Costing, where applicable, and manual should-cost models. Quantify savings against agreed cost, quality and assembly-time targets.
• Hands-on production support. Troubleshoot fit, alignment, bonding, fastening and integration issues on the shop floor. Train technicians in released work instructions, critical processes and safe use of tooling.
What We Are Looking For
• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering. An MSc in a relevant discipline is an advantage.
• Minimum five years in manufacturing or production engineering, applying DFM/DFA principles to complex electromechanical products. UAV, aerospace, automotive or marine experience is strongly preferred.
• Advanced SolidWorks or other similar software skills, including complex part modelling, assemblies and mates, exploded views, and complete production drawing packages.
• Hands-on knowledge of at least three of the following: CNC machining, injection moulding, carbon-fibre composite layup, 3D printing, sheet metal forming, and bonding or fastening techniques.
• Strong command of GD&T using ASME Y14.5 and practical tolerance stack-up analysis; experience with SolidWorks TolAnalyst or equivalent tools is beneficial.
• Proven results in reducing part count, assembly time and production cost while maintaining product quality and performance.
• Experience preparing manufacturing BOMs, work instructions, inspection requirements and controlled engineering changes, supported by structured CAD and document management.
• Ability to work hands-on with technicians and suppliers, interpret production data and resolve manufacturing problems systematically.
• Excellent communication, sound engineering judgement and the ability to champion DFM/DFA principles within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary R&D environment.
Additional Advantages
• Experience with UAV structural assemblies and mechanical integration of electronics, wiring, propulsion and payload modules.
• Experience with pilot production, lean manufacturing, process FMEA, first-article inspection, ERP/MRP systems or ISO 9001 quality processes.
• Experience mentoring engineers or technicians and supporting production ramp-up.
Why Join CyRIC
• Competitive remuneration package and opportunities for career progression.
• Professional development and training, with access to modern laboratories, testing and manufacturing facilities.
• International collaboration and travel opportunities, and direct involvement in products deployed in global markets.
How to Apply
Send your CV and a short cover letter of no more than two pages explaining your fit for the role to jobs@cyric.eu. Examples of manufacturing drawings, tooling designs or documented DFM/DFA improvements are highly desirable; share only material you are authorised to disclose.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to skills evaluation days at our headquarters in Nicosia.
