Flobit – Smart water usage and savings enablement metering system, supported by artificial intelligence and machine learning methods, for building environments

Flotbot

The FLOBIT project aims to address the major problem of lack of information on real water consumption of domestic appliances and the fact that currently there is no simple and cost-effective means to monitor and verify water consumption from each water consuming appliance and fixture.

The FLOBIT project aims to address the major problem of lack of information on real water consumption of domestic appliances and the fact that currently there is no simple and cost-effective means to monitor and verify water consumption from each water consuming appliance and fixture.

The FLOBIT system is an innovative water consumption assessment system that enables significant reduction in buildings’ water consumption. In particular, the FLOBIT system measures in real-time the water consumption of each individual water consuming appliance and fixture, traces and disaggregates water single-use consumption events, allows the users to monitor their daily water consumption through mobile app, notifies users in case of any irregular water consumption, abnormal water usage patterns and leaks and provides water saving recommendations.

The proposed idea is originated from the effort of a reputable research and innovation company, named CyRIC – Cyprus Research and Innovation Center Ltd (www.cyric.eu), the UCY-KIOS Research and Innovation Center (www.kios.ucy.ac.cy) that operates within University of Cyprus, the Elysee company that manufactures plastic pipes and fittings for water supply, irrigation, sewage and energy (www.elysee.com.cy) and the Water Board of Nicosia (www.wbn.org.cy) that supplies water to more than the 1/3 of the total population of the Republic of Cyprus.

CyRIC: CyRIC is the coordinating organisation. As the coordinator, CyRIC, is responsible for the overall project coordination. CyRIC participates in all technical WPs and will be mainly responsible for the design and development of the FLOBIT firmware and software platform, system integration, validation and demonstration.

UCY-KIOS: They will mainly participate in the design and development of artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms and the data analysis. Also, UCY-KIOS will lead the Dissemination and Commercialisation Planning activities.

ELYSEE: They will be mainly responsible for the design and development of the FLOBIT manifolds.

WBN: They will provide input for the scientific understanding and technical requirements of FLOBIT system and its user interface and they will also participate in the dissemination activities and pilot tests.

Acknowledgement: The FLOBIT project is co-funded by the Research and Innovation Foundation of Cyprus, the European Regional Development Fund and Structural Funds of the European Union in Cyprus.
