Code4Europe project aims to bring together all of Europe’s digital skills stakeholders from Youth Education, Civil Society, Digital Industry and Government to implement innovative approaches to the digital upskilling of young people, and create a hugely successful, sustainable, and scalable digital education that will empower all young Europeans to embrace digital technologies and pursue a highly rewarding career in Digital.
Shaping Europe’s Digital Future
Code4Europe is a major European initiative launched in 2024. The project is supported with €6 million in funding under DIGITAL-2023-SKILLS-04-BOOSTINGDIGIT – DIGITAL-CSA Digital Coordination and Support Actions. Its mission is to inspire and empower the next generation of digitally skilled Europeans by promoting digital literacy and coding skills, with the broader goal of increasing people’s participation in the digital workforce.
At its core, Code4Europe aims to reimagine, revamp, and relaunch EU Code Week, expanding it from an annual initiative into a year-round movement that reaches deeper into classrooms, communities, and families across Europe.
With 2030 approaching and Europe still working toward its Digital Decade target of 20 million ICT professionals, Code4Europe responds to the urgent need to strengthen the continent’s digital talent pipeline. The project focuses on making digital skills accessible to all and encouraging more young people to see a future for themselves in digital careers.
Mission and Ambition
Code4Europe is designed to tackle the digital skills gap at its source by engaging children, young people, educators, families, communities, and industry in a shared European effort.
Over its 2-year duration, the project aims to:
- scale up EU Code Week through 450,000 activities
- reach 25 million people aged 6–25
- support strong inclusion and participation, including a target of at least 14 million female participants reported through the EU Code Week website
